From the Translator
When I was approached to translate Hilton Kuscka’s Rick Hammad series, I was honored and intrigued, since Mr. Kutscka writes in a relatively new genre called the parallel universe. This idea of mixing fact with fiction and making our reality flexible, bendable, and so plastic-like it reminded me of the talents of surrealist Salvador Dali. 
I knew right away this series would be a translator’s dream challenge, and so I accepted it. I have no regrets, only gratitude for being offered the opportunity to translate a wonderful Brazilian author with a mind that can only be called unique. 
From this first novel Lailah: God’s Divorce from Her to Lives: Mortal Fun to God Throws Dice I have not been disappointed in Mr. Kutscka’s talent to marvel and to hold the reader captive to the page. This is a tall order for a translator to follow. I have done my best to meet this challenge in all nuance and linguistic brick walls. Mr. Kutscka is on his fourth novel in the series right now. I cannot wait for him to finish it.

H. James Kutscka has written a parallel universe series. His first novel 'Lailah: God's Divorce From Her' features Rick Hammad, Yu-Ling, and a distant acquaintance of Rick who comes to the rescue when Rick's perfect creation, "Lailah", escapes, after being committed. She begins to destroy everything Rick holds dear. Divorces can get nasty, especially when the wronged wife swears to get even.

 

Meet the Author

H. James Kutscka is a Brazilian writer from São Paulo, Brazil. This first novel Lailah: O Divórcio de Deus was originally published in Portuguese in 2007. The next two books in the series are Lives: Mortal Fun, and God Throws Dice. At the present time Mr. Kutscka is working on the fourth novel in the series when he is not flying off to the state of Goiás on business with other clients. On the weekends, he and his wife spend their free time at their country cottage where he relaxes and writes even more, and discusses his English versions with his translator Darian Land on Skype video.
